Online Solicitation of a Minor Stopped
Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 43-year old Cooper man at Kid’s Kingdom in Buford Park in Sulphur Springs for allegedly setting up a sex date with what he thought was a 15-year old girl. The man was actually trading text messages with a sheriff’s deputy. Gary Lee Sillivan was charged with online solicitation of a minor before JP Ronny Glossup who set bond on Sillivan at $35,000. In God We Trust
Meeting Monday, the Hopkins County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to adopt the national motto In God We Trust as their own. A plaque in the Commissioners Courtroom now indicates it. County Judge Robert Newsom said over 100 cities in California have also done this as well as some cities and counties in Texas. Hopkins County Memorial Hospital CEO Michael McAndrew has written a letter to set the record straight concerning the current condition of the hospital. He is encouraging media members to make use of it. The letter says rumors about the hospital closing or facing bankruptcy are false. Friday Deadline For Stew Sites Approaching Quickly
Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce President Meredith Caddell is reminding all stew cooks from last year that this is the final week to renew their sites. Deadline is Friday at 5 p.m. Those not renewed by the deadline will be made available to anyone Monday morning at 8 a.m. Ms. Caddell says a lot of forms from last year’s cooks have not been turned in yet. Wayfinding Signs??
At the last meeting of the Sulphur Springs City Council, the council voted to add $66,000 to the proposed budget to address some of consultant Roger Brooks’ branding ideas. City Manager Marc Maxwell says the funds will be used for wayfinding signs to direct people from the Interstate or from hotels to downtown. Two sheep raised by Sulphur Springs High School senior and FFA student Taylor Swinson now on the Sulphur Springs Elementary campus are not only keeping the grass in check but they are also part of an ag curriculum Taylor wrote for the school.
