Grand Jury Indictments for February, 2019

A Hopkins County Grand Jury handed up 53 indictments in February. Among those indicted were:

Hevelyn Carter for burglary of a building. (See Story below)

Vondrick Deshawn Gomes for three counts of burglary of a building. Hopkins County Sheriff Lewis Tatum says he does not like thieves so he was pleased when a Fort Worth man and a woman were arrested shortly after a Como convenience store was burglarized. Sheriff Tatum says it was the second time the store was targeted recently. He says after the first break in on December 28, deputies have been on the alert in the area. Sheriff Tatum says when a burglar alarm sounded this time, Hopkins County Patrolman Dan Turrentine was near by. Sheriff Tatum says the patrolman saw a dark SUV on Highway 11 heading west toward Sulphur Springs. The sheriff says the patrolman secured the building and alerted other deputies and Sulphur Springs police officers. Lawmen watched the two main routes to Sulphur Springs on Highway 11 and on Highway 1870. Police Patrolman Justin Findley Stanley stopped the dark SUV near Helm Lane.


GOMEZ,VONDRICK DESHAWN aka LIL-VON

Inside the vehicle, he found 90 individual packs of cigarettes and some alcohol. Sheriff Tatum says the cigarettes were stolen from the Como store and the alcohol was reported stolen from a store in Cass County earlier Wednesday. The sheriff says he believes the couple also broke into the same Como store and into a Sulphur Springs’ store on December 28.

Roland Vallejo for burglary of a building. An investigation into the stealing scrap metal across the county led to a warrant for the arrest of Roland Vallejo, 33. Vallejo had been the subject of prior investigations into theft but this time he took a washing machine from inside a building in the Seymore community, according to investigators.

Erick Jerome Simms for Manufacture Deliver Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more than 1-gram but less than 4-grams in a Drug Free; Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more than 4-grams but less than 200-grams with Intent to Deliver in a Drug Free Zone; and Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 less than 1-gram. Knowing the driver of a vehicle at the corner of Locust and Houston Streets did not have a driver’s license, the Sulphur Springs Police Officer made a traffic stop. The driver Erick Jerome Sims, 40, of Sulphur Springs had in his possession 28-grams of suspected methamphetamine in a clear plastic baggie.  Sims is back in Hopkins County Jail charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more than 4-grams but less than 200-grams with intent to deliver in a Drug Free Zone, a Felony 1, and for Driving Without a License with Previous Conviction/Suspension. Sims had been jailed in September of this year on a possession charge.  

Jason Andrew Tiff for Possession Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2, more than 4-grams but less than 400-grams. A Peoria, Illinois man, Jason Andrew Tiff, 24, was stopped for a traffic violation by Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputy K9 unit at the 132 mile marker on I-30.  Tiff refused consent to search the vehicle but the K9 alerted on the driver door of the vehicle. A probable cause search found multiple bags of THC Edibles in the center console of the vehicle and additional drug paraphernalia was located as well.

Ashley Michelle McMillan for Possession Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2 more than 4-grams but less than 400-grams and for Possession of Marijuana more than 4 oz but less than 5lbs. When the Sulphur Springs Police officer made the traffic stop on the 2009 Acura SUV at the 126 mile marker on I-30, marijuana was in plain view. A probable cause search led to the discovery of more marijuana as well as liquid THC. McMillian, 28, of Sulphur Springs was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2 more than 4-grams but less than 400-grams, a Felony 2 and Possession of Marijuana more than 4oz but less than 5lbs, a State Jail Felony.

Robert Jason Douchette for two counts of Manufacture Delivery Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more than 4-grams but less than 200-grams in a Drug Free Zone; Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more than 1-gram but less than 4-grams in a Drug Free Zone; and for Possession Controlled Substance Penalty Group 3 less than 28-grams in a Drug Free Zone.

Joe Dan Whitworth, Jr for two counts of Manufacture Delivery Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more than 4-grams but less than 200-grams and Manufacture Delivery Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more than 1-grams but less than 4-grams. Under investigation by Special Crimes Unit and Hopkins County Criminal Investigator Wade Sheets, Whitworth, 68, of Sulphur Springs, was stopped by Sulphur Springs Police K9 Unit Officer Buddy Williams. Whitworth was found to have approximately 30-grams of methamphetamine in his possession. When the traffic stop was made at the 117 mile marker on I-30 at 10:34 p.m. Wednesday night November 28, 2018, a positive response by Williams’ K9 partner Kilo revealed a quantity of suspected methamphetamine under t he back seat frame of the 2013 Ford Fusion Whitworth was driving.

Isaiah Deont Bryant-Lacy for Money Laundering more than $2500 but less than $30,000. Sulphur Springs Police made contact with Bryant-Lacy, 21, of Tyler in the 900 block of Gilmer Street . The odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle led to a probable cause search of their 2015 Ford Focus. U. S. currency totaling $13,471.00 and marijuana were found in the vehicle.

Allen Johnson for Unauthorized Use of Vehicle.

Edimaira Burgos-Morales for Credit Card or Debit Card Abuse. Two females and one male (see below), who gave their address as Mexico, were arrested at Red River Credit Union after Sulphur Springs Police responded to a call regarding suspicious activity.  Police found multiple gift cards from which the individuals were taking money and a large sum of cash along with receipts from Red River Credit Union.  The  gift cards were found following consent to search the vehicle in which the trio was traveling. The three were attempting to leave Red River Credit, located on Gilmer Street in Sulphur Springs. The vehicle had fictitious registration and license plate.
