Saltillo Lions and Lady Lions Defeat Avinger

Both the Saltillo Lions and Lady Lions got district wins against Avinger Friday (January 25).

The Lady Lions went to 8-0 in district play with a lopsided 71-26 win. After a slow start, the Lady Lions were tied 5-5 after the first quarter. They exploded on offense scoring 48 points over the next two quarters to take a 53-21 lead. The Lions Lady also outscored Avinger 18-5 in the fourth quarter. For the Lady Lions, Anna Reeder had 16 points, Chandler Bain scored 15 points, Jocelyn Ochoa got 14 points, Maddie Smith had 13 points, Brittney Peeples scored 7 points, Lorena Castro and Paisley Kastner got 3 poiints each. The #23 ranked Lady Lions improved their season record to 24-8.

Meanwhile the Saltillo Lions defeated Avinger in overtime, 57-50. The two teams were tied after regulation 49-49 but the Lions outscored Avinger 8-1 in extra time to get the win. The Lions are now 5-1 in district play and 20-8 overall. For the Lions, Chris Boekhorst led the way with 21 points. Matthew Gurley, Andrew Redburn and Ben Moore scored 10 points each. Levi Hoover had 6 points.

Both the Lions and Lady Lions play at Bloomburg next Tuesday.
