Four Sulphur Springs Women Focus on Welding at PJC-Sulphur Springs Campus

WOMEN WELDERS:  The summer welding class at the PJC-Sulphur Springs Center includes four young women from Sulphur Springs. While welding isn’t a traditional occupation for women, interest is growing and “these students are doing great,” according to Instructor John Plemons. They are, from left with Plemons looking on; KeaAron Cash, Nicky Cline, Emily Kuiper, and Hailey McKinney. All but Kuiper are in structural welding. Kuiper is in advanced welding. According to the American Welding Society, only about 5.8 percent of working welders are females. These students said they love it and are in it to stay.
