May 27, 2026 – Hopkins County voters cast their ballots for both Democratic and Republican runoff elections. Election Administrator, Katelynn Kneifl, reports that election day voter turnout was strong as more than 1,200 voters made their way to the polling stations on Tuesday, which almost matched the early/mail-in voter numbers.
Both Democratic and Republican primary runoffs saw Hopkins County voting closely following the statewide results with local Democrats largely favoring the two winners. Vikki Goodwin for Lieutenant Governor and Nathan Johnson for Attorney General both received a majority of votes by Hopkins County voters as they both won statewide voting and will be on the ballot in November for their respective offices.
Local Republican primary voters had more runoff candidates to consider as they also voted largely the same way as the statewide voting results as Ken Paxton, Mayes Middleton, and Thomas Smith all gained a majority of Hopkins County votes to add to their statewide wins. The only exception is the Republican Primary Runoff race for Railroad Commissioner which Hopkins County voters were split dead even with an exact 50% of the local vote going to each candidate Bo French and incumbent Jim Wright. Bo French ended up edging out incumbent Jim Wright to earn his spot on the November ballot.
