On April 24th 1947 Olin Dair Reed Jr, also known as Skip, was born to Olin Diar and Mary Edith Reed, Grandparents Robert Lee and Martha Jane Perkins and John Hamilton and Ida Mae Reed. He was the first born of four children. He was born at the Boyd Sanatorium in Whitney, TX. He attended Anson Jones Elementary, LV Stockard Junior High, and Sunset High school, where he graduated in 1965. He went on to attend X-ray school and graduated in 1967. He met and married the love of his life, Sherry Ann Wade, on May 29th 1969. They had Shane on July 3rd 1970. Stacie was born on July 16th 1974. His early jobs were working at the Putt-Putt golf course, which he loved. He could make a hole in one on every hole. He always had a love for golf and for the Texas Longhorns. He loved working at Methodist Hospital in Dallas where he worked alongside his sweet mom for 20 years. In 1995, he left Methodist and went to work at Paris Regional. He retired after working there for 18 years. He enjoyed working the weekend shift, so that he had the week to enjoy golfing. Poppy, as his grandkids called him, was known to have shown them all a golf club and ball, as soon as they were big enough to walk. The Grandkids’ favorite times were when they could go to Poppy’s and Mimi’s and get in his hot tub. Mimi enclosed the porch just so he could have it inside a room. Little did he know his grands enjoyed it more than he did.
Faith and a relationship with God were a big part of Skip’s life. He was saved at a young age. He and Sherry were a big part of the rebuild and growth of the Sulphur Bluff Assembly of God Church. They were there every time the doors were open and even sometimes when they weren’t! (They had their own key) Raising their children in that faith and passing that faith down to them and their Grands was their testimony. If you know Skip or ever went out to eat with him, then you know, he shared the gospel every time he left a tip at a restaurant. Skip invested in scripture cards that had scriptures and an encouraging message on them. He carried them in his wallet and no matter where he went, he shared one with whomever was waiting on him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Norman and sister-in-law Judy.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sherry Ann; son Shane and wife Kori; daughter Stacie and husband Mark Gammill; brother Ronnie Reed; sister, Sherry and husband Larry Mullen; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Sherry Wade; grandchildren, Jaci Reed, Mason and Connor Gammill and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, kindness and love. Most of all the Christus-Mother Frances Nurses and staff, Heart to Heart Hospice, and the Carriage House Nursing Staff.
