Commissioner Sid Miller Praises Texas Fluoride Settlement Protecting Children
January 9, 2026 – AUSTIN — Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is applauding a recent settlement secured by Attorney General Ken Paxton that requires clearer and more responsible marketing of children’s fluoride toothpaste.
In a statement released January 9, 2026, Miller praised Paxton for prioritizing children’s health and standing up for Texas parents. The settlement requires Procter & Gamble, the maker of Crest toothpaste, to accurately depict the recommended “pea-sized” amount of toothpaste for children on its packaging, correcting images that previously showed excessive amounts.
Miller said misleading packaging undermines parents who are simply trying to teach basic hygiene habits. He noted that exaggerated images contradict written instructions and can encourage overuse of fluoride, which has documented health risks for young children.
“Texans deserve transparency and common sense when it comes to fluoride, especially for kids,” Miller said, adding that parents should be able to trust product packaging without fear of being misled by corporate marketing.
The commissioner emphasized that honesty in labeling is essential for maintaining trust and protecting families, particularly when products are designed for children. He also said the agreement reinforces Texas’ role as a national leader in consumer and child protection.
Miller concluded by reaffirming his commitment to parental choice, transparency, and children’s health, and said he is proud to stand alongside Attorney General Paxton as the state continues to hold corporations accountable and safeguard Texas families.
