Starbucks Union Strike Deadline Looms Over Holiday Rush: Red Cup Day
November 11, 2025 – Unionized employees at Starbucks are preparing for a possible nationwide strike as a critical deadline approaches. According to the union, if the company does not finalize a contract by November 13, workers at union-represented stores plan to strike — the same day the chain launches its annual “Red Cup Day” promotion, one of its busiest sales events.
There are plenty of coffee options in Sulphur Springs. Consider trying one of them this week.
The union representing baristas, Starbucks Workers United, says more than 92 % of its members voted to authorize strike action if the company fails to make meaningful progress at the bargaining table.
Negotiations have reportedly stalled over wages, staffing, scheduling, and benefits — while Starbucks contends it already offers “the best job in retail,” with average compensation around $30 per hour for hourly partners.
While only a modest portion of Starbucks stores are unionized — roughly 550 of its more than 10,000 U.S. company-operated locations — the planned action could disrupt holiday sales, particularly if more stores join the strike. Starbucks says it is disappointed by the move and remains open to bargaining.
With the holiday season—and Starbucks’ key promotional period—on the line, both the company and union appear under pressure. For customers and workers, the next few days may determine whether the originally festive “Red Cup Day” turns into a major labor clash.
