July Egg Numbers: Prices Hold Steady as Supply Adjusts

August 25, 2025 – The U.S. egg market remains relatively stable, with prices holding steady and retail demand improving amid the back-to-school season. Wholesale prices for graded loose caged eggs are unchanged at $2.19 per dozen. Meanwhile, prices for Large cartoned shell eggs fell to $2.61 per dozen in New York and $3.09 in California.

Retail promotions have helped boost shell egg demand, although purchases by egg product manufacturers dipped slightly. As processing schedules return to full-time, overall shell egg inventory dropped by nearly 1.5%, with a notable 2.5% decrease in the Large egg category.

Retail activity shows conventional caged eggs advertised at an average of $2.43 per dozen. Cage-free eggs featured in 34% of shell egg ads, averaging $3.04 per dozen. Free-range, pastured cage-free eggs continue to command premium prices, reaching up to $7.37 per dozen.

Table egg production remained steady from last week and slightly higher than last year. Breaking stock prices held at $1.40 per dozen, with cage-free eggs accounting for nearly 37% of all processed eggs.

No new Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreaks were reported, but losses in 2025 reached 36.3 million birds. The caged flock shrank by 15.3%, while the cage-free population grew by 12.7% since January.
