The Hopkins County Breast Cancer Support Group
August 20, 2025 – Sulphur Springs – The Hopkins County Breast Cancer Support Group sponsored by the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation met last Monday with special guest Amy Newsom, APRN, FNP-C.
Amy shared a wealth of knowledge about nutrition and vitamin deficiency and how regulating the two can improve the quality of life not only for cancer patients, but all people.
“The body is like a plant. It needs the proper nutrients and environment to thrive” Amy explained. “A quick 10-minute walk a day in the sun can naturally supply around 10,000 units of Vitamin D to support a healthy immune system.”
Amy further explained the importance of something as simple as sleep. “Going to sleep by 10 p.m. does wonders for your sleep cycles. The body heals with the addition of more REM sleep cycles, so going to bed earlier in the evening allows your body additional time to recover and heal.”
The support group meets the second Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Medical Plaza which is the three-story building in front of CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Sulphur Springs. Any woman who has or has experienced cancer is welcome to join and bring a friend.
The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation is an IRS designated 501 (c)(3) that has served Hopkins County since 1997. The Foundation offers free clinics, educational resources, and programs for the public while also funding programs and equipment for the Hopkins County Hospital District/EMS and CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Sulphur Springs.
