Juneteenth Museum Construction to Finish in 2026

June 2, 2025 – Construction on the National Juneteenth Museum in Fort Worth is poised to begin soon, following a major step forward by the Fort Worth City Council. On February 11, the council approved a land lease for the site currently occupied by the Southside Community Center, paving the way for development of the long-anticipated cultural landmark.

Planned for Fort Worth’s Historic Southside neighborhood, the museum will be a 50,000-square-foot facility designed to honor and preserve the history of Juneteenth—the day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. New architectural renderings released after the council vote reveal a dynamic space featuring a 250-seat theater, co-working areas, and a food hall, creating a space that blends education, community, and economic opportunity.

The project carries an estimated price tag of $70 million. Fort Worth has pledged $15 million in city funds to support the museum, which will be allocated once the remaining balance is raised. The funding marks a strong vote of confidence in a project expected to have significant cultural and economic impact.

The National Juneteenth Museum aims to become a hub for learning, celebration, and dialogue around African American history and freedom. Leaders involved in the effort say the museum will not only highlight the story of Juneteenth but also serve as a space to inspire future generations through programs, exhibits, and events.
