We would like to thank Pat Connally for her generous gift and partnering with Dinner Bell this week. A story of Pat’s parents follow in Pat’s own words:
My parents, Stan and Jeanette Thibodeaux, met at Randolph Field in San Antonio during WWII. Stan was an airman there and Jeanette a secretary on base. When the war was over, they married and moved to Church Point, LA to help Stan’s parents run their department store.
My two sisters and I were born while living in Church Point.
When I was five, our family moved to Troup, Texas, where Jeanette grew up. Her parents were old enough to be her grandparents; and her dad, J. L. Knight, needed their help in running his feed store / grist mill.
My brother, who is twelve years younger than me, was born while we were living in Troup. After we three girls were on our own, Stan, Jeanette and Randi moved to Hawkins, Texas. Jeanette, who was a wonderful cook and loved feeding others, wrote the grant to build the Hopkins Senior Citizen Center. This housed the Meal-a-Day program for seniors in Hopkins. It was also a gathering place for after lunch games, music, and fun.
It is for Jeanette’s love of feeding others and getting them together, and Stan’s love of games and entertain ment, that I felt a donation to Dinner Bell would be a fitting tribute to them.
By the way, I’m Pat Connally. I met my husband, George, a Sulphur Springs native in Commerce when the College was East Texas State University. We both hold degrees from ETSU. Though I’m not a Sulphur Springs native, after 56 years, I consider Sulphur Springs home!
We plan to continue inside dining every Wednesday with the exception of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
