A Message of Inspiration From the Author of Living Loved, May 11, 2025
Hey friends! So on Friday nights I meet the youth group kids and some other adults, down at the square here in town and we get ice cream. I also share a short power message before we hit the streets to share Jesus and His love with people. This week, we talked about making God our refuge. We talked about how in times of need we can run to Him. Refuge means a safe place. But it also means a place of safety or shelter from danger, pursuit, or trouble. We read in Psalm 91. And friends let me share this deep truth with you today in hopes of encouraging you! Jesus Christ became our refuge when he died on the cross and was resurrected, being seated at the right hand of the father. He was the ultimate refuge. The place we can seek safety and shelter from the judgement of God. But on another level, He is the place we can run when everything is falling apart. When sickness invades. When bills pile up. When evil comes knocking. When you’re being chased down by rumors or gossip or lies about you. When addiction tries to steal our lives or our loved ones. When anxiety overwhelms us. He is the place we can run and find refuge. This refuge is impenetrable. He assigns angels to guard that which is His. Friends listen, he’s not a far away God who doesn’t see you or know what is happening in your life. He is an ever present, never forsaking, unfailing, God who you can run to in times of need. Let’s pray Psalm 91 over our lives now. Turn with me and let’s make the scripture PERSONAL, because friends, He is a personal God and His word is FOR US! For us to learn about him, but also for us to wield like a weapon as we battle against the evil in this world. So let’s pray this.
Psalm 91:1-16
Lord; I choose to live in the shelter of the Most High therefore I find rest in the shadow of you Lord Almighty. This I declare about you LORD: you alone are my refuge, my place of safety; you are my God, and I trust you. For you will rescue me from every trap and protect me from deadly disease. Father thank you that you will cover me with your feathers; that you will shelter me with your wings. Father your faithful promises are my armor and protection. I will not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. I do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at my side, though ten thousand are dying around me, these evils will not touch me. I just open my eyes Lord and I see how the wicked are punished. Lord I make you my refuge, I make you the Lord Most High my shelter, therefore, no evil will conquer me; no plague will come near our home. For you will order your angels to protect me wherever I go. And Lord thank you that your angels will hold me up with their hands so I won’t even hurt my foot on a stone. Lord you say I will trample upon lions and cobras; and I will crush fierce lions and serpents under my feet in the name of Jesus. LORD you say, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” And we call upon your name as our refuge. We love you and thank you in Jesus name, amen!
Friends, may the Lord be your refuge, may His promises be your foundation, and may His peace guard your hearts. You are so loved, Live Loved!!
