Is Your Donation Item Worthy?

November 16, 2023 – Before you drop your donations off a thrift stores, check this list to make sure they will accept them. Here is a list of some forbidden items:

  • Hairdryers w/o GFI
  • Anything of a pornographic nature
  • Construction debris (i.e., fencing, gutters, lumber, concrete, bricks, stone, and paint)
  • Mattresses, box springs, waterbeds, pillows
  • Venetian blinds (window blinds with cords)
  • Opened personal hygiene or cosmetic products, household cleaning / upkeep products, or industrial chemicals
  • Furniture that is covered in animal hair, heavily soiled, broken, worn, torn, stained, moldy, blood stained or missing parts. Bean bag chairs and sleeper sofas are not accepted.
  • Ammunition or weapons (including BB guns, pellet guns, and arrows)
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • CRT, LCD’s are fine, but not projection or ‘tube type’ televisions.
  • Hazardous wastes (lead-acid batteries, paints, fuels, solvents, oils or equipment containing these)

This is just a partial list. Most of these restriction are common sense. Thrift stores want products what others will want to purchase. They will not accept anything remotely dangerous. Keep in mind that they are not a trash service.

If you have an items you want to donate, but are not 100% sure it’s wanted, call ahead and ask.
