SSISD, Como-Pickton And Cumby ISD Will Release Students, Run Buses At 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, Due To Weather

Sulphur Bluff Varsity Girls Basketball Game Postponed: The girls game vs. Avery has been postponed for tonight. They will play tomorrow morning (Jan. 11) at 10:00 a.m.

Sulphur Springs ISD Athletic Changes and Updates Announced:

Friday 1/10:

  • Boys Basketball host McKinney North (Moved to Monday 6pm Varsity Only)
  • Girls Basketball host Royse City (*District Opener*) (Moved to Saturday 2pm Var only)
  • Boys and Girls Soccer cancelled for today!

Saturday 1/1

  • SS host Powerlifting Meet (MPB)
  • 8th Boys basketball @ MP Chapel Hill Tournament
  • Girls Basketball host Royse City (*District Opener*) (Saturday 2pm Var only)
  • Boys and Girls Soccer – both in Longview tournaments (game times may change)

Saltillo JV girls will be traveling to Bland tomorrow morning for the Bland JV tournament. Their first game will be at 8 am vs. Wolfe City, the school announced just after 11 a.m. Friday. At 9:40 a.m., Saltillo ISD announced that the JV and Varsity Boys Games have been moved to Saturday starting at 10 a.m. with JV Boys.

According to administrators from Como-Pickton CISD and Cumby ISD, they will join SSISD in releasing students at 1 p.m. and running buses at 1 p.m. today (Friday, January 10, 2020) due to the threat of severe weather later today. SSISD Tax Office will be closing at 1 p.m. today as well.

Cumby and Como-Pickton schools have agreed to move the Varsity Girls Basketball game to 11 a.m. There will be no other games played.

North Hopkins ISD is rescheduling evening basketball games, but is maintaining the regular school day at this time, according to the superintendent.

Miller Grove ISD and Sulphur Bluff ISD are on the regular, normal schedule at this time, the superintendent at each district reported at about 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Sulphur Bluff Varsity Boys Game tonight at Sam Rayburn is cancelled. Miller Grove FFA on Thursday announced the Miller Grove FFA Livestock Show has been canceled on Saturday, Jan. 11; reschedule date will be announced at a later time.

SSISD TO RELEASE SCHOOL AT 1:00 pm TODAY

Rusty Harden, Assistant Superintendent for SSISD, in a release stated: Due to the threat of severe weather to the Sulphur Springs area later today, SSISD will be releasing school at 1:00 pm. Buses will deliver students 2 1/2 hours earlier than normal. Please make this adjustment to your schedule, as always the safety of our students and staff are our main concern. We will inform you of the plans for extra-curricular activities as soon as possible.

The SSISD Tax Office will be closing at 1:00 pm today as well. The Tax Office is located in the SSISD Administration Building on Connally St., which will be closing early as well due to the threat of severe weather. School property taxes are due by January 31st, the tax office will be open regular business hours next week.

COMO-PICKTON CISD 1 PM Dismissal, Game Changes

Due to the forecasted bad weather tonight, and in addition to our early dismissal at 1:00, Cumby and Como-Pickton have agreed to move our Varsity Girls Basketball game to 11:00. There will be no other games played. We are hoping that provides both communities with safe traveling conditions without having to cancel the game. Thank you for your constant support of our school. The weather is difficult to predict, but we would rather be on the side of caution when it comes to the forecasted severe weather.

It is predicted to manifest about the time school is out and students are being transported home. These decisions are always difficult as weather is hard to predict, but the safety of our students is our top priority. We will be dismissing school at 1:00 today. We will inform you of plans for extra-curricular activities later today. We want to be as proactive as possible. Thank you for your continued support of our schools.

CUMBY ISD EARLY DISMISSAL AT 1:00 TODAY

MILLER GROVE FFA CANCELS SATURDAY SHOW

Miller Grove FFA on Thursday announced the following: Due to threatening weather conditions, we have made the decision to cancel the Miller Grove FFA Livestock Show on Saturday January 11, 2020. The safety of the kids, parents, and animals is our #1 concern. We feel this is the best decision to make at this time.

We will RESCHEDULE at the earliest possible date! We have some awesome buckles and cool awards to give out!
