August 25, 2026 – SSISD Superintendent Deana Steeber issued another letter to parents and students in the local school district concerning bussing disagreements and outlining confrontations between parents and school busses on their routes. Both incidents described in the letter involved citizens (probably parents of school children) following school busses and in one instance passing and blocking a school bus. One incident culminated in a confrontation between a school bus driver and a parent. The school bus driver resigned later that day after completing the route.
The confrontations are a result of major changes in bus routes including new pick up/drop off locations as well as the elimination of SSISD’s bus hub. Many parents have taken to social media to air their grievances with the latest confrontations allegedly being filmed as more ammunition to be aired on parent’s social media platforms.
Steeber reiterated in her letter that the district’s main concern is the safety of all students.
The school district’s job gets tougher every year, and obviously the sweeping bussing changes did not sit well with a lot of parents, but enough is enough. The district, it’s board members, administration and finally the parents need to come together, stand together and find the common ground for the best interest of the STUDENTS. This common ground will not be found on social media, but in a face-to-face meeting between administration and parents. All those involved should remember: your students are watching, your children are watching and they are learning from all of us the best path to becoming responsible adults.
