Gerald Lynn Dyer, 83, of Holly Lake Ranch, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 30, 2026.

Gerald was born in Honey Grove, TX, on September 25, 1942, to Elmer and Freda Dyer. He graduated from Honey Grove High School in 1961. He graduated from East Texas State University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Gerald was recruited by the Texas Highway Patrol after graduation, where he served as a Patrol Officer for ten years. After leaving the Highway Patrol, he worked for Gulf/Chevron Oil for the next thirty years.

Gerald loved the Lord, his family, golf, and gospel hymns. He was a great athlete, lettering in football and basketball in high school, and was offered a basketball scholarship to Southern State College in Magnolia, Arkansas. He was a lifelong sports enthusiast, lived a life of service, and never met a stranger.

He is preceded in death by parents Elmer Dyer and Freda Dykes Dyer; sister Mary Jean Dyer Calvert (1927 – 2015) and husband David Calvert; sister Francis Dyer Thomas (1930 – 2021) and husband BJ Thomas; brother Edgar Dyer (1932 – 2009); Billy Max Dyer (1934 – 1984); and sister Wanda Dyer Marlin (1940 – 2022).

He is survived by his loving family: wife, Kathy Hughes Dyer; son, Daryl Dyer (wife Shannon and grandson Riley); daughter, Dawn Dyer Rhodes (husband Duane, granddaughter Caroline and grandson Jack); son, Robert Dyer; daughter, Laura Cranford (granddaughter Tara, grandson Tyler and great-granddaughter Presley); daughter, Tammi McLaughlin (wife Sandra Rankin); and son, Jeremy McLaughlin (granddaughter Cassie and grandson Eben) as well as sister-in-law, Carol Ann Dyer and brother-in-law, Tim Marlin, brother-in-law Gary Hughes, sister-in-law Sharon Baker and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 2 pm, at Holly Brook Baptist Church – 3219 S. FM 2869, Hawkins, TX 75765.
