Harold LeRoy “HL” Jayne

Harold LeRoy “HL” Jayne, age 83, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2025, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 8, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas, to Harold C. and Edna Jayne, he was one of seven children. Raised in a pastor’s home, he followed in his father’s footsteps and devoted his life to ministry, building churches in Kansas, Texas, and Canada. In retirement, he expressed his creativity through poetry, publishing three books.

HL was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He married the love of his life, Gloria Jean Meek, on August 9, 1961, in Nixa, Missouri. Together they shared 64 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanie; children, Tod LeRoy (Sherri) Jayne, Benjamin Neal (Tracy) Jayne, Kathy (Howard) Emery, and Carla (Mike) Bowers; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Luke (Kathy) Jayne, Jon Jayne, Tim (Tarrin) Jayne, Gary (Arlene) Jayne; sister, Carolyn (Jerry) Stout; brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Anita Ferro; brother-in-law, Ray Meek; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold C and Edna Jayne; son, William Clay Jayne; daughter, Crese Cockerham; parents-in-law, Bill and Ruth Meek; sister and brother-in-law, Wayne and  Janetta Rowe; brother-in-law, Hollis Meek.

Visitation will be December 29, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Grace Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Pastor Tom Campbell officiating. Pallbearers will be Dustin Wesson, Kaleb Wesson, Jim Alston, Clay Penny, Jerome Aamodt and David Newsome. Honorary Pall bearers will be Howard Emery and Mike Morgan. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery.
