Breast Cancer Support Group Gathers for a Speaker and Christmas Potluck
December 13, 2025 – Sulphur Springs, Texas – A heartwarming Christmas potluck was enjoyed by the festive members of the Hopkins County Breast Cancer Support Group, sponsored by the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation, during their monthly meeting on December 8.
Ladies who have or have had any kind of cancer, not just breast cancer, are invited to become part of the meaningful facet of the community.
Leslie Northcutt, owner of Ascend Physical Therapy, was the guest speaker. She shared the many benefits of physical therapy, such as restoring range of motion, strengthening muscles, managing pain, and preventing injuries.
For breast cancer patients in particular, physical therapy can help with lymphedema, scar tissue mobilization, and with surgery preparations. “We can evaluate you before your surgery and advise your surgeon on how to position you comfortably to prevent the irritation of preexisting issues or aches,” Leslie explained.
“Even if your surgery or injury was years ago, it doesn’t mean physical therapy can’t help you now. You are not stuck in restriction,” Leslie added. She complimented the group for being vocal and talking about their unique cancer experiences. “Continue to be a resource for others and say ‘Hey there’s something you can do about your pain and there’s hope.’”
Group member Bobbie Malone agreed wholeheartedly, “How fortunate are we to be able to help others and to have a place we can go to let it all out! Here, ladies find acceptance, understanding, advice, and friendship.”
The Hopkins County Breast Cancer Support meets at 5:30 pm on the second Monday of each month in the Medical Plaza, 113 Airport Rd. Meetings include opportunities to share prayer requests, sign cards for homebound members, discuss personal cancer testimonies, and enjoy light refreshments.
In My Closet is another resource the Foundation offers for cancer patients and survivors. It has free prosthetics, wigs, mastectomy bras, hats, and more.
