National School Bus Safety Week
October 20, 2025 – National School Bus Safety Week will be observed October 20–24, 2025, highlighting the importance of keeping students safe on and around school buses. The annual campaign, organized by the National Association for Pupil Transportation, promotes awareness among students, parents, drivers, and communities about responsible behavior near buses and roadways.
This year’s theme, “Driving Safely Together,” focuses on shared responsibility — reminding motorists to stop for flashing red lights and extended stop arms, and encouraging students to stay alert when boarding or exiting. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, school buses remain the safest form of transportation for children, but most bus-related injuries occur outside the vehicle during loading and unloading.
Districts across Texas and the nation plan to participate through classroom lessons, driver recognition events, and safety demonstrations. Local law enforcement agencies will also increase patrols in school zones and bus routes to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
“School bus safety depends on everyone doing their part — from bus drivers to parents to other motorists,” said transportation director Carla Mendoza of a North Texas district. “A few seconds of patience can save a child’s life.”
