Memorial service for Marion (JR) Edwin Hughes Jr, age 74 of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Shannon Oaks Church, Fellowship Hall, Sulphur Springs, Texas. Mr. Hughes passed away on October 27, 2025 at Christus Mother Frances – Sulphur Springs.
JR was born on September 6, 1951 in Eldorado, Texas to Marion Edwin and Doris (Whaley) Hughes. Mr. Hughes was of the Christian faith, and was an ordained minister. Marion worked as a truck driver for many companies including Tyson Foods, Red Stagg, and Winburn Milk. He was also an owner operator, and worked for many years as an OTR driver. Marion enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, riding his Harley Davison motorcycle, painting, playing guitar, woodworking and spending time with friends and family. He had a heart of gold, was generous and had a great sense of humor. JR loved Elvis Presley, Science Fiction, Gospel Music, and ice cream.
He is survived by his beloved former wife and forever best friend, Mitzi Hughes; his daughter Stacie Dickey and husband, Garrett; son, Jeff Hughes and wife, Casey; step-daughters, Jessica White and husband, TJ and Marisha Moreland and husband, Jonathan; step-sons, Chris Gessman, and Joshua Peugh and wife, Melissa; seventeen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Bo Edwin Hughes and wife, Yen; Lynn Hughes and Sundae; and Ken Hughes and wife Tammy.
JR was preceded in death by his parents; son, Clinton Hughes; grandson, Ronald Todd Zimmerman Jr; bother, Rick Hughes and sister, Darlene Jetton.
