With profound love and gratitude, the family of Ellen Sue Clayton celebrates her beautiful life and peaceful passing on October 12, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on June 8, 1942, in Sulphur Springs, TX, Ellen Sue lived a life defined by strength and generosity of spirit.
A gifted and successful cosmetologist, Ellen Sue built her career and reputation in both Los Angeles, California, and Como, Texas, where she touched countless lives through her artistry, compassion, and warm personality. Her clients and friends often became like family — drawn in by her humor and her genuine care for others. She was married to the late Barris Sims and Leon Clayton.
Ellen Sue is lovingly survived by her devoted daughters Toleia Sims and Tammy Demery (Tyrone Demery); cherished granddaughters, Mariah Demery and Aijalon Pryor; beloved grandsons, Trevon Washington and Marco Flores; precious great-granddaughter Evie Martin, who brought endless joy to her later years, and nieces Sophia Noiel, Stephanie Thomas (Mark Thomas), Shelita Stokes (Charles), and a host of other relatives most notably in Texas and Kansas.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18th at MLK Church of Christ, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember the remarkable woman she was. There will be a open visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at East Caney Cemetery.
