Mt. Pleasant Nursing Program Get $1M in Grants

September 7, 2025 – The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Nursing Program has secured more than $1 million in competitive grant funding to expand and strengthen its nursing education opportunities. The combined awards, totaling $1,037,871.79, will enhance curriculum, improve student success initiatives, and provide cutting-edge training resources for future healthcare professionals.

The funding includes $244,867.95 from the 2024-2028 Nursing Shortage Reduction Program to support full accreditation for both the Vocational Nursing and RN programs. Accreditation ensures long-term program stability and broader recognition.

Through the Nursing Innovation Grant Program, NTCC was awarded $416,604.96 to create stackable credentials by integrating Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and Patient Care Technician (PCT) certifications into the nursing pathway. This grant will also fund a new CNA skills lab with updated training equipment.

The 2025-2027 Nursing Shortage Reduction Program contributed $226,398.89, covering NCLEX Prep Hurst Review for RN students at no cost, tuition assistance for faculty pursuing advanced degrees, professional development, and the creation of a Faculty/Student Success Coordinator role.

Additionally, the Texas Workforce Commission awarded $149,999.99 through its Building Capacity in Healthcare Fields Grant, funding new classroom supplies and advanced hands-on training equipment.

Dr. Jon McCullough, NTCC’s Executive Vice President for Advancement, praised the program’s efforts, noting these competitive grants will ensure NTCC continues producing highly skilled graduates ready to meet healthcare demands across Northeast Texas.
