Jerry Zack Cooper, age 66, of the Hagansport Community in Franklin County, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to Jearl “Mutt” and Lucy Smith Cooper. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Franklin County. He married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer Mays, on October 11, 1980, and together they built a life rooted in love, family, and service.
Jerry loved his family, his farm, and the tight-knit community of Hagansport and Franklin County as a whole. He was proudly serving as Commissioner of Franklin County Precinct One in his third term, dedicating himself to improving the lives of his neighbors and preserving the rural values he cherished. Prior to serving as commissioner he owned and operated Cooper Body Shop.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jennifer; their children, Jace and Sheena Cooper, Jillian and Cody Weaver and Jacquelyn and Levi Mendez; his grandchildren, Jax Hagan Cooper, Milton Cooper, Baylin Cooper, Conway Cooper, Jaylee Weaver, Lilyana Mendez and Ollie Mendez; his brothers, Michael Cooper and Randy Cooper; his sister, Pam and Billy Williams; brother-in-law, Rusty Mays; a host nieces and nephews and extended family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Mutt and Lucy Cooper; a brother, Ricky Cooper, and his granddaughter, Ella Grace Mendez.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 24, 2025, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church – Mount Vernon with Rev. Randy Sinclair officiating. Pallbearers will be Jace Cooper, Randy Cooper, Cody Weaver, Levi Mendez, Shane Stanley, and Cooper Williams.
