Foundation’s Free Mammography Clinic Provides Life-Saving Prevention for Local Woman
September 15, 2025 – Sulphur Springs, Texas – The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation is a charitable organization with a rich history of improving local healthcare since 1997, but more recently, its annual free mammography clinic has become a beloved and impactful tradition.
Krista Caldwell is a local woman who has been participating in the free clinic since its second year in 2021. “I only signed up because I was in the age bracket and met the criteria. I never dreamed my results would change my future for the better.”
After participating in the free clinic, Krista was called back for a follow-up. “The call surprised me because the women’s center’s new machine was supposed to get rid of a certain percentage of false reports”, Krista shared, thinking that the follow-up was surely a mistake.
Following additional local testing, Krista was sent to Tyler for a biopsy where it was confirmed she had pre-cancerous cells. Because of the diligence of the staff of the Ruth and Jack Gillis Women’s Center in October, Krista’s pre-cancerous cells were removed in time for Christmas.
“As someone who was taught to check for lumps and do self-exams, I asked my surgeon how I missed it. He said I had the kind that can only be found through a mammogram or sonogram.
This year will be my 5th mammogram at the free clinic and I’m thankful God has allowed them to be clear since 2021.”
Instead of a life-changing diagnosis, Krista benefited from life-changing prevention. Hopkins County women age 40 and older may call (903) 438-4325 to sign up for the Foundation’s free mammography clinic while appointments are available. The cost of 75 mammograms will be covered throughout October at the Ruth and Jack Gillis Women’s Center located inside CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Sulphur Springs.
