Governor Abbott Secures Federal Extension for Healthy Texas Women Program

On June 27, 2025, Governor Greg Abbott announced the federal renewal of the Healthy Texas Women Medicaid waiver through June 30, 2030. The waiver, approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), ensures continued funding and support for critical women’s health services in Texas.

“By securing this waiver extension through 2030, Texas will further support the health and well-being of women, especially those most vulnerable,” Governor Abbott stated. He credited a successful legislative session that delivered record funding for the program and thanked President Donald Trump’s administration for backing the extension.

Administered by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), Healthy Texas Women offers preventive and family planning services to low-income, eligible women. This includes pregnancy testing, contraceptives, screenings for breast and cervical cancer, postpartum depression treatment, and more.

HHSC Executive Commissioner Cecile Erwin Young praised the ongoing support from state leadership, emphasizing the importance of these services in improving women’s health outcomes.

In fiscal year 2023, the program served an average of over 430,000 women. With the waiver now extended through the end of the decade, both providers and patients can expect continuity of care and stable reimbursement for essential services across Texas.
