Final Days For Joann Fabrics and Crafts

May 30, 2025 – More than 440 Joann stores are set to close by May 31, marking the final phase in the retailer’s shutdown. A company spokesperson confirmed that while many locations have already shuttered, the remaining stores still in operation will permanently close their doors by the end of May. The closures come as part of the wind-down process initiated by Joann’s new owner, GA Group, which gained control earlier this year.

Following the acquisition, GA Group quickly began “going-out-of-business” sales at all Joann locations, signaling the retailer’s impending exit from the market. These sales have been the last opportunity for customers to purchase Joann merchandise, which includes fabric, craft supplies, and home décor. As of now, Joann’s merchandise is only available at its physical stores—its online platform has been discontinued.

The company also stopped accepting gift cards in late February, a move that aligned with the broader closure strategy. For customers, this means all remaining business must be completed in-store and before the end of the month.

Joann, once a staple for crafters and DIY enthusiasts nationwide, had struggled with declining foot traffic and changing retail dynamics. Despite efforts to modernize and pivot toward digital platforms, the company was unable to sustain its operations amid mounting financial pressures.

With over 440 closures, the end of May effectively marks the end of Joann’s presence in the retail landscape. Customers hoping to take advantage of clearance sales or use remaining store credits must act fast, as time is quickly running out. After May 31, all remaining Joann locations will be permanently closed, concluding the company’s long history in arts and crafts retail.
