Open Arms Recovery Support Group

February 28, 2024 – The Community Bible Fellowship Church located in Dike Texas is launching the new support group Open Arms Recovery (OAR). We feel lead to provide this to the community as addiction kills thousands of Americans every year and impacts millions of lives. Addiction not only affects the addict but also their family members, friends, coworkers, and those they interact with on a daily basis. The group will be under the direction of Pastor Ron Smedley who is the lead pastor of Community Bible Fellowship. Pastor Ron is a former parole officer and caseworker for Child Protective Services.

OAR MINISTRY is excited to humbly offer the Hopkins County Community and its surrounding area a 12 Step Support Group called LIFE RECOVERY. Our group will meet each Monday Night at 6 PM at the Como Community Center. The address is 209 Gaskins FM 69 Como TX 75431 in the building adjoining the Fire Dept. Parking is encouraged across the street at First Baptist Church (FBC) Como.

We want to thank Pastor Nick Tovar and the congregation of FBC Como for their support in this effort. The curriculum being taught is Life Recovery which is nationally recognized and follows the Word of God as the foundation of the 12 Steps. This also helps by providing a supportive recovery community that supports individuals in their journey to recovery. The motto of OAR is “you are not in the boat alone!”

We Welcome You With Open Arms. All are welcome and everyone can benefit. We can all have struggles: some with drugs, opiates and alcohol. Others with pornography, food, or depression. Furthermore, we have a vision to support the affected families so they can receive education and support as they live with someone in recovery. Our group is welcoming and non judgmental.

We hope this can benefit those in the system that need a place to attend to fulfill the requirement of their supervision, but most of all We want it to be a resource that brings healing to our community. Pastor Dale Ingraham, author of Tear Down This Wall of Silence, said “When a church helps the abused and those struggling with addictions find a path to recovery, they are being the hands of Jesus to the world.” Call Us at 903-347-3961 for more information
