HP Hosey

HP Hosey died at 89 of heart complications on Tuesday 10/10/2023 in the hospital at Sulphur Springs, TX surrounded by family and friends. He was a man of rare intellect and warmth who loved others without reservation. HP survived his wife Mindy by six years after a full life together of over 62 years.

After the two graduated Austin College in 1956, HP spent 12 years as aviator for the US Navy, with his four children born along the way – William. Marshall, Henry, and Natalie, who survive with 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. HP left the Navy to fulfill his teenage promise to God to serve as a Presbyterian minister. He did so at the end of 3 years of seminary in Austin, with churches in Sibley, LA, Sulphur Springs, TX, and Winnsboro, TX.

HP Hosey

Retirement to Sulphur Springs did not slow him as he served numerous temporary stints at various churches and he rarely refused requests for other additional service. He also lovingly and energetically gave himself to helping establish the Sulphur Springs Heritage Park and Museum, even after he and Mindy moved to the Wesley House Retirement community over 8 years ago, with HP in assisted living for the last few. A great many will miss his wit and compassion.

A memorial service and reception lunch is tentatively set for 10:30 am Saturday, November 4, at the Hopkins County Museum and Heritage Park in Sulphur Springs. Memorial donations can be made to the National Indian Childcare Fund.
