Wildcats Basketball Gets Hard-Fought Win Versus Longview, 59-51

Wildcat Basketball

Men’s basketball held their second-to-last home game in the winter 2021-22 season and emerged victorious, beating Longview 59-51 on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

The first half proved to be tight, as did the entirety of Tuesday’s contest as Sulphur Springs went in to the locker room holding a 22-16 edge over the Lobos.

Scoring opened up for both teams in the third quarter as the Wildcats outpaced Longview 22-17 to head into the final period leading 44-33.

The Lobos continued to play hard, never relenting in the fourth, but men’s basketball kept the Lobos at arms distance the rest of the way, beating Longview 59-51 on Tuesday, Dec. 8 in the SSHS Main Gym.

The win over the Lobos gives Coach Brandon Shaver’s squad a 24-9 record (8-2 district) with just two games left on the regular season.

Next up, Sulphur Springs has a date with Mount Pleasant on Senior Night Friday, Feb. 11.

Whoever emerges victorious on Friday is in the driver’s seat to become district champ of 15-5A.

That game tips off on Friday in the SSHS Main Gym at 7 P.M.
