Wildcats Soccer Goes 0-3 in Longview Tournament

Wildcats soccer had a tough outing in Longview, going 0-3 at the Lobo Invitational held Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 13-15.

Men’s soccer lost to Tyler’s Chapel Hill 3-1 Thursday, Jan. 13 in their opening contest. They followed up the Thursday loss with another one on Friday to Lufkin 4-1.

That game was tied 1-1 at the half before the Panthers were able to take control in the second.

Saturday the men wrapped up participation in the Longview tournament with a 3-2 loss to Forney.

Sulphur Springs led 2-0 at the half against the Jackrabbits but Forney scored three unanswered to get the come-from-behind victory over the Wildcats.

Coach Alexi Upton said his squad struggled to finish strong in the loss to Forney. The Sulphur Springs coach said his team “[hasn’t] played a game all year we haven’t been in.”

The three losses dropped men’s soccer’s season record to 0-6-2.

Coach Upton’s squad were originally set to return to Gerald Prim Stadium for a home contest with Highland Park but that game has since been cancelled. The men’s soccer coach cited school being closed and squad depletions due to COVID as a result of the cancellation.

With that Sulphur Springs takes Tuesday off before returning to action for their third and final tournament this Thursday in Terrell.

Coach Upton’s team looks to defend their title at the yearly tournament held in Terrell.
