Wildcats Baseball Team Still Seeking Their First Win After Two Tournament Losses Friday

The Wildcats lost a pair of games Friday (February 26) in the 30th annual Rose City Classic in Tyler at Mike Carter Field. The Wildcats ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 pitchers duel against Lindale and then struggled for a second day against Tyler Legacy losing 9-1.

Lindale scored a run in the top of the second and made it stand up to get the 1-0 win. The Eagles outhit the Wildcats 7 to 3. The Eagles made the game’s only error.

The Wildcats got solid pitching from East Texas Baptist commit Aiken Owens and Dawson Carpenter. Owens, who took the hard luck loss, pitched the first 4 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 run with a strikeout and a walk. Carpenter pitched a strong 3 innings allowing only 1 hit and no runs while fanning 4. Kaden Wallace was 2 for 3 and Carson Fenton was 1 for 3. Jake Armstrong and Colby Albritton both drew walks. Matthew Singleton was hit by a pitch and he stole a base.

In the Wildcats’ rematch with Tyler Legacy, the Red Raiders scored in all four innings. They outhit the Wildcats 9-8. The Wildcats made the game’s only error. Three Wildcats pitched. Matthew Sherman took the loss going 3 innings and giving up 8 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 1 and walking 2. Wallace went a third of an inning in the fourth allowing 1 hit and 4 runs with a strikeout and 4 walks. Armstrong also threw a third of an inning allowing no hits or runs while striking out 1 and walking 2. Singleton was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a triple. Mayer Millsap was 2 for 2 with a run scored. Wallace was 1 for 1 with a double and a walk. Carpenter was 1 for 2. Blake Vice was 2 for 2 with a double. Ty Stroud drew a walk. Griffin Crawford got a stolen base.

The Wildcats are 0-3 for the season. They have back to back games in the tournament Saturday morning. They face Forney at 10 A.M. and Hallsville at noon with both games at Mike Carter Field.
