Wildcats Soccer Team Ekes By Texas High 3-2 In Overtime On The Road

For the most part, the Wildcats Soccer Team has found a way to win close games this season. For the third time in 9 district games, the Wildcats defeated an opponent in overtime.

It happened for the third time Tuesday night in Texarkana as the Wildcats topped Texas High, 3-2. Both of the Wildcats’ wins over the Tigers have been by a single goal in overtime.

Wildcats Coach Alexi Upton noted the Wildcats manage to get a win despite missing six of their starters. He said he loved the fight in his group.

The Wildcats got a huge game out of midfielder Kevin Yanez. Yanez scored the first Wildcat goal on a penalty kick. Yanez then assisted on a goal by Isaac Gutierrez. Yanez also scored the deciding goal in overtime that was assisted by talented freshman Uriel Santacruz.

The Wildcats improved to 7-2 in district play and they improved their season record to 13-6-5. The Wildcats have a bye Friday and, then, wrap up district play next Tuesday against Royse City at home on Senior Night. After that, the second place Wildcats will be playoff bound.
