The driver reportedly extremely nervous when talking to the officer, leading the officer to obtain permission to search the black Cadillac STS.

A clear bag containing a white crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine was located in the sedan, Sulphur Springs Police Officer Adrian Pruitt alleged in arrest reports.

Consequently, 35-year-old Brandon Chad Phillips of Longview was arrested at 10:43 a.m. Feb. 18 for possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance and the car being impounded. A drug-fee zone enhancement was added to the charge due to the stop’s proximity to Austin Academic School and Little Acorn Daycare, Pruitt alleged in arrest reports.

Phillips was released from Hopkins County jail on the charge on Feb. 10. His bond was set at $10,000 on the charge, according to arrest reports.
