Saltillo Girls, Miller Grove Boys Get Basketball Wins

The Saltillo Lady Lions, ranked #11 in the state this week, overwhelmed another district opponent defeating Avinger, 55-22 Friday night (January 31) on the road. The Lady Lions built their lead in every quarter. For the Lady Lions, Jocelyn Ochoa and Allie Lane both scored 9 points. Brittney Peeples and Chandler Bain scored 8 points apiece. Anna Reeder had 6 points. Julianna Giles had 5 points. Maddy Smith added 4 points. Paisley Kastner and Kristina Wade scored 3 points apiece. Lady Lions Coach Bill Giles said anytime you win on the road, it’s a good win. He said the officials allowed physical play and he said the Lady Lions responded well. Coach Giles said balanced scoring is a result of awesome team work. He added he is proud of this team. The Lady Lions are 8-0 in district play and 26-7 for the season. They host Bloomburg Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile the Miller Grove Hornets took a one-sided win over the Greenville Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy, 92-33. Kobe Robertson had a huge game for the Hornets scoring 47 points. Riley Hasten had 12 points. Isaiah Billingsley scored 9 points. Kagen Scott added 7 points. Lexton Sly and Tanner Hensley totaled 5 points each. Matt Brignon scored 3 points. Jacob George scored 2 points.
