Wildcats Soccer Suffers Narrow Loss

Wildcats Soccer Coach Proud of Team After Narrow Loss to Quality Opponent

Sometime a loss can feel like anything but that. That’s the way Wildcats Soccer Coach Alexi Upton was feeling after his team lost a squeaker to Lufkin, 4-3 in the 2020 Lobo Invitational Varsity Tournament Thursday afternoon. Coach Upton said it was a great game and high flying with a playoff-like atmosphere. He said he was so proud of the competitiveness in his boys. He noted that Lufkin was preseason ranked #8 in the region by TASCO, the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Organization. Coach Upton said the Wildcats need to avoid mistakes. He said the Wildcats gave up two penalties that hurt them. The Wildcats got two goals from Alejandro Diosdado, one assisted by Kevin Yanez and the other by Omar Hernandez. Yanez also scored an unassisted goal. The Wildcats season record is now 1-3-1. The Wildcats go from the frying pan into the fire as they are now scheduled to play Jacksonville Friday at 4 p.m. in the Longview tournament on the LHS Turf Soccer Field. The Indians are preseason ranked #3 in the region by TASCO. Weather forecasts for Friday call for possible stormy weather. The Wildcats are scheduled to play Forney Saturday at 12:30 p.m. on the Longview High School Grass Soccer Field.
