Sulphur Springs Man Reportedly Assaulted While Walking Dog On Helm Lane

A 49-year-old Sulphur Springs man alleged being assaulted by two males while walking his dog early Thursday morning.

Sulphur Springs police officers were dispatched around 1 a.m. Jan. 30 to Helm Lane apartments, where communications operators were told an assault had occurred. Upon police arrival, a 49-year-old man reportedly told officers he was walking his dog through through one of the corridors at the apartment complex, Sulphur Springs Police Chief Jason Ricketson reported later Thursday morning.

The man reportedly told police he was approached by two black males, one reportedly wearing a black hoodie. The two men allegedly assaulted him. He was allegedly cut several times with a knife. He was transported to the hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries, according to the police chief.

The aggravated assault with a deadly weapon offense was still being investigated by SSPD at 9 a.m. Jan. 30. Police urge anyone with information about assault, including the identity or whereabouts of the suspects, to contact Detective Sgt. Jason Reneau at the SSPD at 903-885-7602, or relay tips to Crime Stoppers at 903-885-2020 or online. Tips made to Crime Stoppers are handled in such a way that the caller’s identity remains anonymous.
