Funding Still Sought To Help Furnish New Senior Citizens Center

Oak Avenue property where a new senior citizens activity center is to be constructed

Sulphur Springs residents in the fall of 2019 approved a multi-million dollar outlay for the construction of a new center on Oak St. The money for the project will come from sales tax dollars provided by the EDC.

The Sulphur Springs/Hopkins County EDC is a Type A Sales Tax Corporation that receives approximately $1.6 million annually to fund development activities.

The project will also pay to remove a dilapidated structure containing asbestos on the build site.

The Senior Center has been soliciting donations for building improvement for years. It will not focus on funds directed toward furnishings the new building.
