Memorial George Dorner 42 Tournament is a Five Year Tradition at Sulphur Bluff

According to Patrica Dorner, her late husband George loved to play 42 but he loved the youth more, including church youth, the students of Sulphur Bluff as well as in all the schools in the county. He was a Christian mentor for them, and at his passing five years ago, his family decided to organize the annual George Dorner 42 Tournament, with proceeds set aside to purchase Bibles for the graduating class of Sulphur Bluff High School. On average, there are between 15 and 23 graduates in each year’s class.

Turnout was good for the tournament held on Saturday July 21 in the Fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Bluff. In addition to games of 42, there was plenty of food for everyone and friendly fellowship for the spectators. Winners received trophies, plaques and bragging rights. Here are the 2018 winning teams:

THIRD PLACE: Landon Dorner and Brian Dorner with organizer Patricia Dorner

SECOND PLACE: Larry Connor and Trey Newsome

FIRST PLACE: John Perkins and Brenda Grable
