Panthers Defeat Detroit in First Game of Bi-District Season

The North Hopkins Panthers took game one of a best two out of three bi-district series in dominating fashion defeating Detroit, 7-0 at North Hopkins Wednesday.

North Hopkins scored two runs in the bottom of the second, added a third run in the bottom of the third and scored four big insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Wyatt Wharton got the pitching win going the first six innings allowing only three hits and no runs. He struck out nine and walked only one. Caleb Wyatt pitched a scoreless seventh allowing no hits while striking out two.

The Panthers had eleven hits. Brycen Gillespie was 2 for 3 with a run, three RBIs, a double and a home run. Wharton was 1 for 3 with three RBIs. Branson Thomas was 1 for 3 with a run, an RBI and a double. Colby Cameron was 3 for 3 with two runs, a walk and three stolen bases. Chase Williams was 2 for 3 with two runs and a double. Wyatt was 1 for 4 with a run. Victor Rojo was 1 for 3.

After a day off Thursday, the series will continue Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Detroit. The winner of the North Hopkins and Detroit series will play the winner of the Union Grove and Martin’s Mill series in an Area series.
