Wildcats pitcher Ryan Humphries teamed up with pitcher Pacen Edwards to shut out the Mount Pleasant Tigers, 7-0 to get a key district win Friday night at Wildcat Park.
Humphries went the first six innings and Edwards finished up in the seventh inning. Humphries allowed only five hits and he struck out six and walked five. Edwards allowed only a walk. The Tigers committed two errors and the Wildcats one.
The Wildcats outhit the Tigers eleven to five. The Wildcats scored in four of their six innings at bat. The Wildcats scored one in the second, one in the third, four in a big fourth and one more in the fifth. Dawson Draper was the hitting star for the Wildcats. He was 3 for 3 with a run, 2 RBIs, a home run, a double and a walk. Draper’s home run was the first one hit in new Wildcat Park. Jaxon Chaney was 2 for 4 with a run, an RBI and a triple. Kaden Argenbright was 2 for 3 with a run, an RBI and a walk. Humphries was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Edwards was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Gavin Millsap was 1 for 1 with a run scored and two walks. Triston McCormick scored a run.
The victory improved the Wildcats district record to 8-2. They now can finish only first, second or third in district play. The Wildcats are now 15-9 for the season. Weather permitting the Wildcats will play a non-district game at Rowlett Saturday at 2 p.m. The Wildcats resume district play against Greenville Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Wildcat Park.
