Lady Cats End Tournament Play; Begin District Tuesday

The Lady Cats’ softball team had a win and a lopsided loss on the last day of a Wylie tournament Saturday (March 3). The Lady Cats defeated Burleson Centennial, 7-2 and lost to Rockwall, 15-0.

In Saturday’s first game, pitcher Bailey Haggerty had another strong outing. Haggerty got the win going 5 innings allowing only 4 hits and 2 runs with only 1 run earned. Haggerty struck out 6 and walked 3. Meanwhile the Lady Cats collected 14 hits including 3 doubles and a home run. Brinklee Driver hit the homer and was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Sierra Smith was 2 for 3 with an RBI and with a double and a single. Kelsey Wallace drove in a run and was 1 for 3 with a single. Alyssa Abron was 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and with 2 doubles. Sadie Stroud was 2 for 3 with a run scored and with 2 singles. Kate Womack was 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 singles. Alli Fite, Macee Hollins and Landri Bell also had 1 single each. Driver, Stroud and Fite all stole bases. Jacklyn Semler had a sacrifice bunt. The Lady Cats scored 2 runs in the first and second inngs to lead 4-0. They added 3 more runs in the fourth inning while Burleson Centennial scored 2. The Lady Cats led 7-2 after four innings.

In the Big Rockwall win, the Lady Cats managed only 3 hits and committed 3 errors. Hollins solved Rockwall pitching going 2 for 2 with a double and a single. Nylah Lindley also got a single in two trips to the plate. Abron drew a walk. Fite and Tess Holt struggled in the circle. Holt took the loss allowing 9 hits and 8 runs. Fite gave up 5 hits and 7 runs with only 5 runs earned.

Coach David Carrillo said his team did not finish the way he would have liked but he added the Lady Cats did compete well for the most part. He said the Wylie tournament is always very competitive and a good test right before district. Coach Carrillo said he played a lot of kids the last few weeks and he said it is now go time as district begins Tuesday. He said it’s fixing to be real. The Lady Cats won 4 and lost 2 in the Wylie Tournament. Their season record is now 12-4.

The Lady Cats open district play Tuesday at home against Greenville.
