Lady Cat Softball Picks Up Two Wins at Wylie Tourney

The Lady Cats’ softball team won a pair of games in a Wylie tournament Friday. The Lady Cats defeated Lubbock Cooper, 15-14 in nine innings and won over Sherman, 6-1.

The Lubbock Cooper game was a wild one. The Lady Cats led 3-1 after one inning. They were down 6-5 after two. They trailed 9-5 after four. The Lady Cats trailed 10-9 after six. The score was tied 12-12 after seven. Both teams scored a run in the eighth to make it 13-13. Cooper scored one in the top of the ninth and the Lady Cats got a walk off win with two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Lubbock Cooper pounded out 17 hits but made 6 errors. The Lady Cats hammered out 22 hits but made 3 errors. Kate Womack had the walk off single. She was 4 for 6 with 2 RBIs. Sierra Smith was 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs with a home run and a double. Macee Hollins was 3 for 4 with 1 run scored and an RBI with a triple, a double and two walks. Kelsey Wallace was 4 for 6 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Alyssa Abron was 3 for 4 with 5 runs scored and 2 walks. Sadie Stroud also drove in 3 runs. Brinklee Driver drove home 2 runs and she was 1 for 3 with 2 walks. Jacklyn Semler, Maddie Millsap and Karlee Adams scored runs. Adams had a stolen base. Nylah Lindley was 1 for 1. Bailey Haggerty pitched two scoreless innings for the Lady Cats and got the win.

Haggerty also pitched the Lady Cats to victory in the 6-1 win over Sherman. Haggerty pitched a 7 inning complete game allowing only 1 earned run on 6 hits. She struck out 7 and walked 1. The Lady Cats scored a run in the first, 1 in the third, three runs in the sixth and 1 more run in the seventh. Sherman got a single run in the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Cats had 11 hits. Abron went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored with a triple, 2 singles and a walk. Smith was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 singles. Adams was 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs and a single. Wallace was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI with 3 singles. Landri Bell was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a double plus a walk. Millsap was 1 for 3 with a single. Hollins walked twice. The Lady Cats improved their season record to 11-3. The Lady Cats play another two games Saturday. They will face Burleson Centennial at 1 p.m. at Wylie High School and Rockwall at 5 p.m. at Founders’ Field in Wylie.
