John Edward Stewart

John Stewart was born August 1, 1952 to Louis Edward (Leathereye) and Ernie Bell Stewart in Commerce, Texas.  His childhood was spent living in Brashear with his family.  He loved to play baseball and he was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School in 1970 where he played golf, basketball, football, track and baseball.  He was a dairyman and cattle trader for many years and he retired from Lowe’s Distributing as a manager.  John had fought Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for almost 13 years, until he finally had to give up his battle. Beaten, weary and worn, he was anxious to see Jesus.  He knew he could be healed in heaven, but it was not to happen here with us.  John passed away at Baylor, T. Boone Pickens, Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

John is survived by his daughter Nikole Lamb and husband Mike, 2 grandchildren Isaac and Addyson Lamb and his fiancé Maria Becerra.  Also surviving are his siblings, Peggy Fuller of Quitman, Phyllis Loyd and husband Rickey of Sulphur Springs, David Stewart and wife Patricia of Haltom City and Elaine Schwartz and husband Irwin of Sulphur Springs, along with many nieces and nephews who have prayed fervently for a miracle.  We finally got it – he is healed.  We want to thank all our friends and church families who have prayed with us and for us, especially these last 2 years.  We love you all.

John was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeremy Shawn Stewart and nephew Jesse David Stewart. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org or a charity of your choice.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 2, 2018 at Spence Chapel at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Mabe officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30, prior to service time at Spence Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
