Fourth Quarter Run Away Provides Winning Margin for Lady Cats; District Title Game Friday Night

Entering the fourth quarter Tuesday night, it was still anybody’s game as the #14 ranked Lady Cats’ basketball team was facing Mount Pleasant on the road. The Lady Cats held on to a slim, 35-33 lead. Then the Lady Cats used a big fourth quarter to run away with a 59-41 win.

The Lady Cats outscored the Lady Tigers, 24-8 in the fourth quarter. The win gave the Lady Cats an 11-1 district record and kept them in a first place tie with Texas High who defeated Greenville on the road Tuesday night. The Lady Cats and Texas High will have a game Friday evening in Paris to determine the district champion and the district’s first seed in the playoffs. The Lady Cats are now 24-4 for the season.

Against Mount Pleasant Tuesday, Kaylee Jefferson led the Lady Cats with 22 points and Sadavia Porter added 17. Autumn Tanton had 8 points, Danielle Godbolt scored 6 points, Imani Taylor had 4 points and Tarayla Kelley scored 2 points. The Lady Cats shot the ball very well hitting 24 of their 43 shots for 56% from the field. The Lady Cats attempted only 3 three-pointers and they made none. The Lady Cats did shoot free throws pretty well making 11 of 16 for 69%. The Lady Cats grabbed 20 rebounds and Godbolt and Jefferson had 8 rebounds each. The Lady Cats had 7 deflections and 17 steals. They overcame 19 turnovers.
