Basketball Game Day: Wildcats, Lady Cats

Wildcats Basketball Game Day

The #8 ranked Wildcats’ basketball team hopes to take another step toward a district championship Friday night (January 19) as they travel to Hallsville for a district game. There is a freshman game at 5 p.m., a JV contest at 6:15 p.m. and a varsity game at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats varsity is 5-0 in district play. They have won four straight games and their season record is 22-3. Hallsville is 2-3 in district play and 14-13 for the season. Wildcats Coach Clark Cipoletta says Hallsville is a good team. He notes that they beat Greenville, 99-37. Coach Cipoletta says the Bobcats can shoot the ball well, especially in their home gym. He says Hallsville is also a tough place to play. Coach Cipoletta says he ranks Hallsville as the second toughest place to play in the district behind just Mount Pleasant. He says the Bobcats have a good coach who does a good job with them. Coach Cipoletta says the Bobcats have a good system and he adds they are disciplined. He says the Wildcats have to come in focused so they don’t get surprised. Coach Cipoletta says a surprise loss could end up ultimately costing the Wildcats the district championship.

Lady Cats Basketball Game Day

The #9 ranked Lady Cats’ basketball team plays a district game against Hallsville at home Friday night. There will be a JV Blue game at 5 p.m. A JV Gold game will follow at around 6:15 p.m. The Lady Cats and Lady Bobcats varsity game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Lady Cats are a perfect 7-0 in district play. The Lady Cats have won five games in a row. Their season record is 21-3. Hallsville has really struggled this season. In round one of district play, the Lady Cats won at Hallsville, 73-26 back on December 15. Lady Cats Coach Jeff Chapman knows Hallsville may be better prepared the second time around. He notes Hallsville runs a man and a 1-2-2 defense. Coach Chapman says he has added some defensive wrinkles the Lady Bobcats did not see back in December. He says the Lady Cats will continue to run their trapping twilight defense that gave Hallsville so much trouble the first time the team’s played. Coach Chapman says he wants his team to play Hallsville with enthusiasm. He also wants his team to play hard so they will get better as a team. We will bring you all the action in the Lady Cats and Hallsville game tonight at around 7:30 p.m. on KSST Radio. We will also videotape the game for replay at a later date on Channel 18 on Suddenlink Cable.
