“A Taste of Style” Ladies Event at The Oaks

“The Oaks”, a new bed and breakfast venue located near downtown Sulphur Springs hosted the “Taste of Style” ladies event on Tuesday June 27, to showcase local food, beauty and fashion merchants. Tours of the two-story home-turned-business were given prior to the start of the program. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and baths, and downstairs a large dining/meeting area, kitchen and breakfast area. Decks open off both levels to add seating and entertaining space. Marlene DeYong, owner of Marlene’s Sass and Class was emcee of the style show. Judy Heilman, owner of Gourmet Kitchen and Company prepared the foods and emceed the tasting portion of the event.  Gay Bailey, owner of the Merle Norman Studio offered beauty tips. The dozen fashion models were local businesswomen and employees of Marlene’s Sass and Class. Winner f the gift basket from Gourmet Kitchen and Company was Deborah Davis. Winner of the Grand Prize, a weekend stay at The Oaks, was won by Denny Lee. The Oaks is owned by Ben Thesing and Allison Libby-Thesing. The couple also owns Coffee Off the Square on Church Street and Coffee Off the Square Two on South Broadway. Both are SSHS graduates who moved back to Sulphur Springs in 2016 to raise their five children and continue a family business. The Oaks is open for reservations for overnight stays, family reunions, rehearsal dinners, social events and business meetings.  Catering is also available.
