Mary Joan Lomax

Funeral service for Mary Joan Lomax, age 71, of Emory, will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Round Flat Pentecostal Church in Fruitvale. Bro. Homer Morgan and Bro. Rod Hoffpauir will officiate.  Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery near Emory.  Visitation will be Friday evening, from 6-8:00 pm at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home. Joan passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at her home.

She was born in Dallas, Aug. 10, 1945, to Cecil Jackson and MaryRuth Elizabeth Hall Pounds. She graduated from Emory High School. Later marrying  Billy Gene Lomax, in Dallas, on June 21, 1968. During her working years, she held several office positions, but, the most important work of all was being a homemaker, wife, and mother to her children. Joan attended Round Flat Pentecostal Church. She loved singing in a little group with her husband, Billy Gene, and brother,  Kenneth Pounds.
Those honoring Joan by bearing her casket will be:  Dakota Hernandez, Jaxson Lomax, Kenneth Pounds, Kenneth Pounds, Jr., Kody Pounds, Kolton Pounds, Joe House, and John Gosnell.
Survivors include:
Husband:  Billy Gene Lomax of Emory
Daughter:  Vicki Slayton of Emory
Son:  Billy Wayne Lomax (Carrie) of Midlothian
Brother:  Kenneth Pounds (Bonnie) of Emory
Sisters:  Verlene House of Point; and, Nell Johnson (Roy) of Duncanville
Grandchildren:  Destiny Slayton, Dakota Hernandez, Jaxson Lomax, Breanna Lomax, and, Rayna Lomax
Great-granddaughter:  Serenity Aurora Young
Preceded in death by:  Parents, and infant sister, Anna Katherine Pounds
Arrangements will be under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home.
