Lady Cats Softball Season Ends

The Lady Cats’ softball team had their season end as Lovejoy won 12-4 at Lady Cat Park to win the bi-district series 2 games to zero.

Lovejoy wasted no time getting started with two first inning runs and four more in the second. The Lady Cats battled back to within 6-4 after five innings but the Lady Leopards scored the game’s last six runs to cruise to the win. Lovejoy had 12 hits including three home runs and a double. They also stole five bases. The Lady Cats also issued six walks and made seven errors.

Alli Fite pitched all seven innings for the Lady Cats and took the loss. Senior Kristen Allen socked two doubles and drove in three runs with one of them. Sadie Stroud was 2 for 4 with an RBI single in the first. Alyssa Abron was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. The Lady Cats had 9 hits. Both teams squandered some opportunities. The Lady Cats left ten runners on base and Lovejoy stranded eleven.

It was the final Lady Cats game for seniors Allen, Hannah Crowson and Jaye Doughtie. Bailey Haggerty, whose mother’s funeral was earlier in the day, attended the game and sat in the dugout with her teammates. The game was paused at one point as the Lady Cats released yellow and blue balloons on behalf of their grieving teammate.

The Lady Cats end the season with a 22-9 record.
