The Lady Cats’ golf team finished fourth at the district golf tournament at Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club Monday and Tuesday. Lady Cats Golf Coach Whitney Spigener said the Lady Cats had two rough days on the course.
Alissa Sotelo, a senior, bucked the trend tying her best round ever and shooting her best two rounds of the year. She shot 99 and 101 for 200 total. Sotelo fnished in eleventh place in the medalist race. Sophomore Morgan Landers shot 104 and 110 for a 214 total. Coach Spigener said Landers was not pleased with her scores. Alyssa Underwood shot 120 and 121 for 241. Emma Lane played a lot better the second day when the course played tougher for most of the golfers. She shot 132 and then 125 for 257.
The Lady Cats shot 455 and 457 for a 912 total. Pine Tree and Texas High qualified for regional along with individual golfers from Hallsville and Mt. Pleasant. Coach Spigener, who went to the state golf tournament her senior year at SSHS, said she has enjoyed her first year of coaching the Lady Cats. She said sometimes she’s dying to play because she knows how fun it is. Coach Spigener said she can also empathize with any player that has a bad round.
All her players return except senior Alissa Sotelo. Charleigh Potts, who was out of the district tournament due to injury, is also expected to return along with some youngsters hoping to play for the Lady Cats. Coach Spigener said the Lady Cats’ season is now over but she added “’we’ll get `em next year”.
